Whether you deliver in the hospital or at home is in principle your own decision. Your midwife can advise you in this matter. If a medical indication occurs you will need to deliver in the hospital.

During a home delivery the midwife will need the help of a maternity nurse. The midwife will decide when the time is there to call up the maternity nurse. Usually this will be at least one hour before the actual birth. Bureau Kraamzorg Extra is on call 24 hours per day for these eventualities. Depending on the actual time of delivery the nurse will stay with you for at least 2 hours after the delivery. If any complications should occur she will stay with you until it is safe to leave you.

Maternity care starts the moment you get home after having given birth in a hospital. The total amount of days of your stay in the hospital is significant for the amount of maternity care days left to you (see the indication protocol).
